This tree was put down by the windstorm of 1999. This very strong storm went over France, Switzerland and Germany on december 26, 1999 with winds up to 256 km/h. More than 100 people were killed and the storm, also called Lothar, caused extensive damage to property and trees and the French and German national power grids. Thousands of tree were destroyed, even big centenary oaks like the one of this shot. Curiously, all the broken tree in the park where I took this photo were removed, except this one.
